Who are you?
Hello - I am Vishal. I am an engineer for the Flow team. I am originally from Nashik, India - a small little cozy town north of Mumbai. I did my Masters in Computer Science from University of Houston and an MBA from Emory University. Before that, I did my Bachelors in Computer Engineering from University of Pune, India. As part of my career, I have had the opportunity to work in different domains ranging from embedded systems, bio-tech, enterprise applications, video delivery and now blockchain.
What lured you into the world of blockchain?
I think I suffer a bit from the shiny object syndrome when it comes to technology. I witnessed the crypto boom in 2018 and from what I read and understood, I felt that blockchain is really a revolutionary idea not just in terms of technology but also in terms of how it can be an enabler for a better society. I definitely wanted to be a part of the action and that is how I ended up here.
How did you get hooked on Flow?
- Flow’s approach of dividing the blockchain implementation into independent and parallelly executed processes really resonated with me as a computer engineer.
- Talking to the team during my interview also gave me a feeling that these are some top notch individuals who know their stuff and also the AxiomZen/Dapper Labs culture is super friendly and encouraging. I could right away see myself fit in well.
- Another thing that got me excited about Flow was the idea of ‘building in open’ and the opportunity to contribute to a world class open source project. Building a community around a product and actively seeking input from the community to make product design decisions is a very refreshing way of building a product which not many organizations do.
What should I read next?
The Fabric of Reality by David Deutsch - I highly recommend it if you want to understand deep scientific concepts but don’t like reading difficult mathematical formulae.
If you have a lot of time on your hands then this - Introduction to Philosophy: Classical and Contemporary Readings by John R. Perry. It is heavy but life changing.
